Beginnings
Bachi was formed in 2004 by five women during their final year of the Performance degree at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. The group includes five women –British, Italian and German/Chilean. Each of Us was the first professional piece, performed in Aberystwyth Arts Centre as part of the Open Platform scheme.

Approach
The group has an experimental, holistic approach to all visual, temporal and aural elements, creating work that speaks to the senses about memory, difference, difficulty and choice. Work on each new piece is preceded by extensive research into an area of interest on both an intellectual and practical level. Each member of Bachi continues their own, varied practice in their resident country and the group meets up throughout the year to work together on a project and share what they have discovered as individuals. Communication when apart takes many forms. Distance has become a working part of the groups functioning.

Future
As we negotiate the distance between us and search for more ways to create as a group, we are increasingly interested in working with people in each of our own adopted communities (as we are all im/migrants of a kind). Current projects will take us to yet more groups of people in other new countries. The future of Bachi lies down many paths – our individual ventures running parallel to the drive of the group.
