five women five colours five easels
To remember a story, a place, a person, a taste.
The piece evolves from the choreographed action of painting at an easel, using bold/primary colours and evoking memory through the creation of pictures with a child-like simplicity. Images and a physical score created from collected family photographs, remembered habits and everyday gestures, punctuate the painting action.
Stories are told, true or otherwise, even the author is not sure; tasks are completed in limited time; we try to grow up. Each of us is a celebration of difference alongside the similarities discovered in five different upbringings that ran parallel from a distance. Beginning as a short outdoor piece in a garden setting, the piece moved indoors to a round studio and continued to develop for further performances including a showing at Chapter’s Experimentica ’04 festival in Cardiff.
